I hate bringing up the recession. I personally haven't been affected, but that hasn't stopped me from seeing a change in my spending habits, which is simply depressing. But there is a ton of great stuff that you can be buying at reasonable prices. Need help finding the deals? Check out this website: http://stuffundertwenty.blogspot.com ! Everything on the website is under $20! It boasts being the new blog for "Recessionistas". I love that. Now you can get your retail therapy fix without breaking the bank!

I have very sad news; my favorite store in Darien, Bohemia Chic, is going out of business. I was driving through Darien the other day and I saw that the store space had a "lease available" sign out front. Even though I had somewhere to be, I flew into the store demanding answers! Recession, recession, down sizing to a small booth at a local antique show, recession. They will officially close their doors the last week in April. If you haven't had the privilege of shopping there I highly advise you do while you still can. The store is filled with hand picked home products as well as some incredible accessories. From refurbished furniture to vintage prints of the Potomac River, Bohemia Chic has something for everyone. Its going to be a sad Spring day when they finally close their doors.
Be sure to check it out before its too late. Everything must go. So sad.

BIG BIG fan of the free downloads on iTunes. I'm always finding great stuff on there. This week the free download is Sleepy Head by Passion Pit. I think these guys are awesome. Remind me a lot of MGMT with this electronica vibe they have going. And its free... what could be better than that?

Its about this time every year that my shopping focus turns to the promise of summer. With a Nantucket summer share just around the corner (ok, half a year away, but whose counting) I've already started to compile in my head my summer "look book". Pretty sure Fei's Lost Locale Blouse is a necessity. Coming in brown and green, this silk blouse is a steal for $88.
Available at Anthropologie.

I haven't been to the gym in almost 2 weeks. I'm actually dodging calls from my trainer as I type this very post (sorry Chris!). So when I woke up this morning, not really feeling all that hot, I did the only thing I knew to do....I put on my JBrands. And the result? I had 3 people ask me if I've lost weight!!! I'll tell you what I told them, Its the JEANS! These jeans will change your life. So if you're over the gym or plan on eating a bagel sometime in 2009, I strongly encourage you to go pick up a pair.

Has everyone seen the trailer for season 5 of The Hills? I will shamefully admit to getting a little teary eyed towards the end. With the new season is starting in March, Lauren Conrad is doing the usual publicity circuit. She graces the cover of Seventeen this month, where she announces that she won't being coming back for a season 6. I died a little bit after reading that. I have a feeling though that this won't be the last we see of her. I could picture her shopping around trying to get her own reality/design show on Bravo or something. Either way. The whole reason I mention any of this is because she had a quote in the article that I think is worth repeating for all you single ladies.
"I'm a fan of labels, but girlfriend doesn't always look good on me." - Lauren Conrad
Welp, so there you have it. All that build up for that. Not quite FB quotes worthy... maybe a status.

One of my favorite photographers is Hedi Slimane. His work is raw. He is best known in the States for his book Rock Diary. Many of his portraits are of troubled stars. From Courtney Love to Pete Doherty. It is no surprise that his most recent subject is Lindsay Lohan. If you can look past her hip bone these photographs are beautiful.

I would like to think that my summer look could be classified as effortlessly beachy-chic. I also think every guy I've ever dated is still in love with me, so clearly my judgment cannot be trusted. That being said, I feel like this white 65% linen blazer would go perfectly with just about my entire summer wardrobe. Throw it over jeans, tank, and a pair of J. Rogers or better yet, pair it with a sexy sundress and you are good to go!
Bianca Jacket $425
Lindsay Lohan is wearing the Alexander Wang dress that I am obsessed with! She is such a skinny little bitch and I love her. Kiira, of Eat and Greet, sent me a link to the photos of her last night at the Mercedes-Benz Oscar after party. She may be a hot mess but I think we would be friends.... is that weird to say?
The Great Barrier Reef and Queensland Australia have launched a MAJOR publicity campaign... they are offering 1 person a $150,000 to live in paradise! This employee will have to "watch over the reef" and be the "Goodwill ambassador to Australia" for 6 months. Not too shabby huh? Sorry everyone they are no longer accepting applications.
There is no one better for this job than my friend Allison! Luckily, she felt the same way and has submitted a video application! Please click on the link below and view her entry. After watching you will understand why it is imperative that she wins this contest... (aside from the obvious reason of I get to go visit her if she wins!)
WARNING! THE VIDEO TAKES A COUPLE OF MINUTES TO LOAD. DO NOT REFRESH. JUST WAIT!! GIVE IT A 5 STAR RATING!

There wasn't one dress that stood out in my mind from tonight. I really expected a lot from this years red carpet since there were so many great actor and actresses nominated. If I had to choose though these were my favorites.
Penelope Cruz in a vintage Balmain gown
Taraji P.Henson in Roberto Cavalli
Anne Hathaway in Armani Prive (who, by the way, is really growing on me.)
Side Note: Was it just me or was the most entertaining moment of the night having Jennifer Aniston stand 5 feet in front of Brad and Angie? Did you see Angie's shit eating grin? So high school and I love it.

I'm a big fan of flats. I'm notorious for thinking I can wear big girl shoes and by the end of the night having a pair of stilettos hanging out of my bag. I've come to learn that this behavior is socially unacceptable at 23.... or any age really. If I could wear flats everyday I would gladly. This season I am loving Lanvin's Perforated leather ballet flats and Bloch's Patent Leather ballet flats. I am on a mission for flats that are supportive and can be worn at night. I don't know if the Lanvin's or Bloch's fit the bill but a girl can hope.
Top : Bloch Patent leather ballet flat $165
Bottom : Lanvin's Perforated leather ballet flats $575

And on the seventh day the Fashion God said, "Let there be Alexander Wang!"
Finally pieces that can be translated from the runway to real life. Just when I was about to give up on Fall 2009 completely Wang saves the day. Simplistic. Fashion Forward. Amazing. The best of the best of 2009 so far belongs to Alexander Wang.
Is it just me or are these dresses very similar? On the left is a dress from the DVF 2009 Fall show and on the right is a Black Halo dress that Katherine Heigl wore back in December to some pet event no one cared about. I think Heigl and someone else were actually in a Who Wore it Best in US Weekly wearing this dress. As soon as I saw the DVF dress this I thought of Heigl. That being said I like the DVF one much better. Much better with sleeves and without that offensive blue.

To be honest I was not impressed with DVF's Fall 2009 Collection. In my opinion it was a mix of trying too hard and missing the mark. I was looking forward to a lot of great prints and fabulously cut dresses. Unfortunately the collection all blended together. It could have used more color and less layering. Thank god its not next Fall already. I'm going to pretend like this showing never happened and keep envisioning Spring 2009.

We've all been hearing the reports of the Chris Brown & Rhianna saga. For the sake of girl power I figured I would post a picture of her killing it. She has incredible personal style. Chris Brown is a tool. I hope he knows better than to show his face around NYC... heard Jay-Z is on the hunt.

I know we have more than a month left of Winter, but I don't care, its Spring already as far as I'm concerned! With my will power I might just manifest an early Spring for the whole North East. When the day comes that its time to retire my boots these are what I plan on putting on.
Hidden Goddess Heels $338... available, where? ... Anthropologie of course!
So the weather breaks the 50 degree mark, snow melts, and I go shopping for summer dresses! I just picked up this Blossom Maxi dress at F21 for $27.50. Total steal. The picture isn't really doing it justice, trust me, its amazing. You have to try it on! Works with or without a belt.... I just happen to have a great thick brown leather woven belt that is going to go perfect with it!
Have I made you a believer in F21 yet?

First Kelly Cutrone now Issac Mizrahi! With all the video blogs and web-i-sodes who needs to watch TV anymore?
A friend of mine who works at Isaac Mizrahi has just turned me onto their in office/studio video blog. All the videos are only a few minutes but there are hundreds of them... literally. Be sure to not only check out the videos of Isaac but also of the staff (found under the label Yesterday @475). I'm sure you are just as intrigued as I am to see what goes on behind the scenes at one of the most influential fashion houses in New York. Side note. They are hysterical.

Its hard to remember that what Lauren Conrad and Whitney Port really do for a living is design clothes. While you never see either of them working on their lines on the shows some how they magically appear. Whitney's line Whitney Eve became available on SeenOn! the end of January. Her price point is a high for being a new designer... but I have yet to see a piece from the collection in person so I really can't judge yet. I need to feel clothing before I can start assuming things!

I was at boozy brunch this Sunday when I heard some very disturbing news. After some further investigation I am sad to report that The Preakness Stakes infield party is OVER. According to MSNBC the Maryland Jockey Club is no longer permitting beverages of any kind to be brought into the field.
Here are the facts:
Tickets for public Infield will remain $50 in advance and $60 on May 16. No beverage of any kind (cans or bottles), including alcohol, soft drinks and water will be allowed to be brought into the public Infield. Sixteen-ounce beers will be sold for $3.50. Coolers and backpacks, containing food, will be permitted in the Infield but coolers larger than 28-by-15-by-17 inches will be prohibited. Beach blankets and suntan lotion, cellular phones, cameras (up to 35mm), camcorders, binoculars and lightweight plastic lawn chairs are also allowed in the Infield. Top of the Stretch seats will remain $110 with coolers limited to 12-by-12 inches or smaller.
Tom Chuckas, the Maryland Jockey President and COO, went on the record saying, "We feel it is time for our public infield customers to enjoy a new way to party. In this year of change it is now time to transform the Preakness Infield experience.” What Tom, were the dunkaroos and beers at 2:30 turning into hot aluminum missiles too much for you? This saddens my heart. Preakness RIP. Never again will it be the horse race where you see more boobs than horses. Tear.

Am I the only one who thinks that all of February's magazine covers look the same? Vogue, Instyle, and Harper's Bazaar all feature bombshell blonde's giving great side arm. I get that its the best pose, its my pose too, but no one could seem to come up with anything original? And this is unfortunate because now with them all looking so similar we have no choice but to compare them to each other. Since everything in life is a competition my winner of the best side arm and February cover goes to Blake Lively. Flawless.

My favorite moments of The City always involve Kelly Cutrone. "No. Really. Are you OK?"-KC. They couldn't scripted this non-real-reality-based show any better if they tried. I absolutely adore this woman. I personally can not get enough... and apparently I am not alone. Rumor is that she has signed on to 8 episodes of a reality show for Bravo. The show is going to be based around strong women in the work place. Bring. It. On. If you can't wait till then check out her video log. FANTASTIC.

Luxury at an obtainable cost. Love it. Alexander McQueen is the first of many designers to join forces with Target for their new fashion series "Designer Collaborations". Girls, set your calendars, the line is only going to be available March 1st - April 11th both in stores and online. This is all going to go very quickly... be ready.
I will post a reminder on the 1st!

Our passion is design and our philosophy is sustainability. - Preloved
Its rare that you can pick up an individual article of clothing and think "Wow, theres something really special about this". That is what makes Preloved so refreshing. All of Preloved's dresses are uniquely made with reclaimed vintage fabrics. I recently tried on a dress that was made out of curtains! I can't speak highly enough about the quality of this product. This is one of those times I really feel like fashion crosses that line and becomes wearable art.
Preloved's collection is available at select Anthropologies & H.P. France.

I have a slight obsession with Helen Ficalora. You might not know her by name but you are definitely are firmilar with her work. She is the mastermind behind the round-disk alphebet gold necklaces everyone owns. This Valentine's Day she has created a line of Baby Hearts all with small diamonds in the center. I absolutely adore them! The Baby Hearts are not yet available online.
