I wear mostly gold. This causes a problem when looking for a watch. If you have gone watch shopping recently you will know that being in the market for a solid gold watch means you are going to spend about as much as you would on a used car. Here is a great alternative. It definitely looks a little cheap but that's because it is... only $42. Available at Urban Outfitters.

I just received Anthropologie's February 2009 catalog in the mail. I feel that Spring is when Anthropologie really shines. I don't know if its the promise of a new season or the incredible product, either way, I want everything. It was a hard choice this PAYDAY but here you have it....
The Bizuteria Tank $218 by Velvet

This dress is currently sold out on Net-A-Porter.com but I'm sure it will be available again soon. Even though this dress is skin tight I think it would be flattering since all the material crisscrosses .

Want to be inside the tents for fashion week but don't have pull? American Express card holder? No problem. Again this year American Express will be offering card holders the opportunity to purchase passes into their Skybox. From inside you have a perfect view of the runways. This years the Skybox will be designed by Bravo TV's Top Design judge Jonathan Adler. American Express also promises that there will be visits from other celebrities and noteworthy fashion experts and designers. Many of the days are already sold out so get the passes while they last!
I was at Mrs. Green's Natural market today picking up a kale salad and I couldn't help but notice that they had Smart Water on sale. They dropped the price from $1.49 to $1.29. When was the last time you saw water on sale? I think I speak for everyone when I say that I have never in my life seen water on sale. I would almost feel better if it was something perishable like milk for example. But water isn't perishable, doesn't water have a shelf life of forever?
Carnegie Hall is really knocking out of the park in March. The Bird and the Bee on March 7th. And I could not be more excited to hear that FINK has signed on to participate in The Music of R.E.M night to benefit Music Education Programs for Underprivileged Youth Concert on March 11th. That makes Guster, Ingrid Michaelson, and FINK all in one night.
Be sure to go to FINK's myspace and here their new song Sort of Revolution. Pretty amazing.
I've decided that in honor of The City I am going to continue with the Monday night DVF pick. I like the idea of making this as regular as my "Pay-Day picks". So here you have it!
Obama Mania! Had enough? Never! Well, you are in luck. For $70 this DVF 'Obama Love Tote Bag' can be yours!
I just got back from 7 days with my family on the Riviera Maya. It was the perfect escape from this absolutely miserable weather. We had hot sunny days and breezy nights. It could not have been better. We ate our way through Cancun, Isla Mujeres, Chichen Itza, and Playa del Carmen or as the locals say just 'playa'. I drank mojitos by day and the most amazing cappuccinos by night. I had a Water Melon mojito at M.B. in the Aqua hotel that was, hands down, the most amazing thing I have ever tasted. I got to have locally made Tequila Ice Cream which was a first! It goes without saying that I ate my weight in both seafood and taco's and I wasn't disappointed once! But lets be honest, there is no comparing a Caribbean lobster to a Maine lobster... All the lobster tail in the world doesn't compare to a lobster-roll at Allison's in Kennebunkport. All in all it was a great trip. Now I'm just patiently waiting for summer so I can rock all the embroidered Mexican dresses I got!

This post is to let everyone know that there is going to be a slight delay till the next Kiss and Type post. I am leaving tomorrow for Mexico. I consider my trip starting at 4am when the car comes for me and have promised myself I will not touch a key until I return on the 24th. There are two reasons why I will not be posting while I am away. The first is I am on VACATION... and if you knew what my next 3 months are going to look like you would know how badly this is needed. And secondly, as a test for myself. Like everyone else in my generation I am over connected. Between my 4 email accounts, cell phone, touch, my blog, and Facebook I feel like I am either checking something or answering someone every moment of everyday and the truth is I think I am kinda addicted to it. So I'm going cold turkey, or in my case, hot turkey... 80 degrees to be exact. I'm sure I will cave in a couple of days and you will be able to find me screaming at some poor innocent concierge! But until then you will not be hearing from me!

ps. Be sure to check out the most recent post by Ashley B. Christie, not only is she one of my best friends but she has the flattest and tiny waist out of anyone I know!

The 5 obvious, you’ve heard them before and they still matter…
Drink enough water
A lot of times you think you are hungry, you are just thirsty; try drinking water first and you can prevent overeating.
How much water should you drink? Take your weight in pounds and divide by 2 to find the amount in oz. per day.
Ex: 120lbs / 2 = 60oz/day a.k.a. ½ gallon, almost 2L, almost 4pints
Get enough sleep
Eat your vegetables
Mom was right. Vegetables of all kinds are just about the healthiest foods you can eat.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day
The first meal of the day is the mot important because it is responsible for breaking your overnight fast. Your breakfast should consist of a protein source and either a carbohydrate or fat, or both, depending on individual factors.
Move your body
Moving more throughout the day will make a healthier version of you
And the 5 you may not have heard before…
More often than not when a client first comes to see me and shows me their food journal, I say, “You are not eating enough.” This couldn't be worse to preventing your weight loss goals from happening. Not only does it send your metabolism into hibernation, it sets people up to binge eat at the end of the day. The key is finding a balance throughout the day of eating the right amount of food.
“Fat Free” is wrong
I often see diet foods, especially salad dressings, labeled “Fat-Free”, which means the food manufacturer most likely replaced the fat with sugar. Instead of making a diet food they have made a diet sabotage. Fat is good, fat is our friend, and most often dietary fat is not what makes us fat. And salad dressing is a great chance to add in that fat. Salad with a protein source (chicken, salmon) makes a figure-friendly meal.
Too much fruit
A diet to some people means turning their breakfast into a lonely piece of fruit. Consuming large amounts of fruit can throw off any well-intentioned dieter from the road to success. Fruit is a carbohydrate, more specifically; it contains a sugar called fructose. Fructose enters different metabolic pathways in the body than glucose and excess amounts can cause serious health conditions (obesity, heart disease, insulin resistance). Take a closer look at the labels of what you eat, even your “healthy” cereal or yogurt, and you will be surprised at how much fructose is making its way into your body. As far as fruit the best types are berries, apples, and citrus; and should be consumed either in the morning or after a workout.
Complete protein source at every meal
Quite possibly the most effective diet trick is eating a complete source of protein at every meal. And by complete I mean your choices are meat, poultry, fish, eggs, or whey. For those who don’t consume animal products, that is a whole other topic completely. Why is protein so necessary? Simply stated, lean protein speeds up your metabolism and quiets your appetite. The thermic effect of protein is responsible for getting our metabolism furnaces burning, meaning that we burn more calories from 100kcal of chicken breast than we would from eating 100kcal of bread. All calories are not created equal!
Stop doing so much cardio!
Let me start off by giving you an example of two girls, Holly and Molly. Holly and Molly are twins, with the same height and weight (130lbs) and the same percentage of body fat (30%). Holly chooses a workout program consisting of weight training 3x/week and 2 days of interval training or sprints. Molly decides to join a spinning class 2x/week and runs at a steady state another 3 days/week. At the end of 6 weeks, both girls lost 5lbs. But lets take a closer look, Holly’s body fat is 25% and Molly’s body fat is 32%! What happened?? Simple, Holly reduced body fat and gained lean body mass. Molly’s endurance training and lack of strength training caused her to lose lean body mass - so even though she lost weight - she got fatter! The type of training you do will make a huge difference, besides the number on the scale, it’s about how you look in your skivvies.

Kate Somerville is responsible for the skin of many L.A. based celebrities. Testimonials for Kate Somerville go on and on. How is it that I am just hearing about her now is beyond me. I was in the market for a new under-eye cream (yes, I've started young girls...) and I came across her new product line. Her basic products are extremely competitive; Exfoliating Cleanser $32 and Moisturizer $65. I highly recommend her Antioxidant Face Serum $65 and her best-seller ExfoliKate $85. If you are going to make any fashion investment it should be in your skin. Its the only thing you wear everyday and never goes out of style!
You can find her products at Henri Bendel, Neiman Marcus, and C.O. Bigelows Apothecaries. (If you go to Bigelow's ask for Emily and tell her Arax sent you!)

My first time in a UNIQLO was on New Years day. I wasn't super impressed. I did purchase a vest and then later that day convinced my friend Ellen to sell me one of the two flannel shirts that she had purchased for herself, ok so maybe a little impressed. It turns out that UNIQLO is making headlines recently because there is a rumor circulating that Steven Alan and Opening Ceremony will be collaborating with this Japanese based store for their Spring 2009 collection. Hopefully there is some truth to these rumors. No one has confirmed this as of now. Stay tuned. If I hear anything I will be sure to Kiss & Type!
We all love the Wayfarer but is the trend slowly shifting to Clubmasters? Brad Pitt is sporting a pair in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Above is a picture of Mary-Kate rocking them in L.A.. I like them I just don't think they are as timeless.
Check out this healthy snack I just found, TrueNorth's Almond Crisps. They boast being 100% natural and a great source of protein. Its a great snack to keep in the house when you are just looking for something quick.
TrueNorth Almond Crisps are sold at all Whole Foods locataions.
In honor of The City tonight I've decided to post my new obsession from DVF. They consider it a beach cover up but this could definitely be worn as a dress. I'm going to file this under 'must-have' for my trip to Mexico next week!

Here are a few new nail colors for Spring. Nude is going to be big in both nails and makeup, for this Chanel has created Django. Black nails are a little played out but I like Dior's Vernis Black Sequin, gives it a new spin for Spring.
Nail Colors Left to Right: Chanel's Django $23, Chanel's Vendetta $23, and Dior Vernis Black Sequin $19.
The Golden Globes were kinda lack luster this year. I didn't even bother to tune in last night. Here are a few that I thought deserved mentioning.
Eva Mendes in Christian Dior, Blake Lively in Nina Ricci, and Maggie Gyllenhaal in Lavin.
My favorite is Maggie Gyllenhaal, her look is so effortless and seems to be representative of her personal style.

She deserves her own post. Everything I have ever wanted out of a piece of jewelry Fiona Paxton has created. We can expect to see a lot more from this British based designer. I suggest you get your hands on one of her necklaces while they are still reasonable. The only place in the states that carries her work is Barney's and I plan on making a trip there just to feel the weight of her work... I bet it is so amazingly heavy.
Check her out.
OK. So this is the third and final post about Drew Barrymore's necklace. In the Style section of the Times today they featured up-and-coming British jewelry designer Fiona Paxton. Fiona Paxton just happens to be the designer of the 'Coco' necklace worn above by Miss Barrymore, $206.55.

I've been a fan of Jessica Simpson's line of shoes. I think that there is a lot of garbage but every once in awhile there is a great inexpensive pair of heels. I was cruising the site today when I came across a pair of heels I swore I had seen before... and I had! Jessica Simpson did an exact replica of Sergio Rossi's Elastic Zipper Sandal. I find this very disappointing. I was just starting to think that she may be making a name for herself with shoes, and now I just think that the only credibility she had was from the fact that she shares the same manufacturer as Tory Burch.

I've been coveting these Tom Ford sunglasses for quite sometime now and I think its come time that I make them mine. I would have bought them off my friend Kaitlyn's face last summer in Nantucket if she would have let me (check out her blog Champagne and Snow ).
I've been thinking about these glasses since August. Its time right?
I've recently been turned onto Rhode Island based painter Julia Riordan Scherer. Above is her painting "Proud Peacock". Prints of her work are available to purchase on Etsy and are extremely reasonable. They would make a great gift for a baby-shower!

I hit the slopes for the first time yesterday. Condition were icy but I didn't care. I was just pumped to wear my ski hat with built in headphones. I was able to plug my i-Pod in at the beginning of the day and just leave it alone. I didn't have to fuss with those annoying ear bugs once. If you ski or snowboard you need one of these hats!

Is it too late in the season to buy rubber shoes? January normally marks the end of purchases for winter and the start of spring shopping but I'm thinking that these might be a necessity. And rubber shoes are timeless and classic. I've been seeing them worn with skinny ankle jeans and even with a dress and tights. Effortless and really cute.

Bought 2 bottles of champagne and a bottle of bitters. Went to Kiira and Ellen’s apartment. Ate pizza. Tried on outfit option #1. Tried on outfit option #2. Tried on outfit option #1 with Kiira’s top. Borrowed Kiira’s top. Boots? Heels? Boots. Boys came over. Did hair and makeup. Took pictures. Split up. Took cabs. Got to the party. Everyone back together. Favorite people. Took more pictures. Played flip cup. Talked to a friend from LA. Told me he was going to put me in his movie. Talked to a friend moving to Asia. Begged Allison to stay. We need her. Don’t remember the ball dropping. Took more pictures. Lost my jacket. Found my jacket. Passed out. Woke up. Still at party. Wow, great view. Hailed a cab. Climbed into bed with Lindsey. Looked at pictures from the night before. Laughed so hard we woke up Kiira and Ellen. Chugged water. Realized I lied about bitters preventing hangovers. Who did I hear that from? Kiira tries to order a bagel for the four of us. Won’t deliver. Damit. Showered where shampoos go to die. Listened to Only One by Stop for Capes on repeat. Looked at pictures. Went downstairs. Hit an ATM and grabbed a bottle of sparkling water. Walk? Cab? Cab, freezing and hung over. Met boys for brunch at La Bon Bonniere. Pancakes, Bacon, and hash browns. Coffee. WATER. We caused a scene. Laughed harder than I did in all of 2008. Walked to SoHo. Bye Boys. Met up with Kati. We all went to The Cupping Room Café. Girls ordered Hot Totties. I ordered a Jack and Coke. Met my new best friend. Realized that my “new best friend” was actually nuts and still wearing her dress from the night before. Already have all the best friends I need anyway. Said bye to Kati. Oh, wait, ‘Are those my sunglasses?’. Gave Kati her sunglasses back. Mourned the loss of the best lost-and-found find of 2008. Subway back to Kiira and Ellen’s. Climbed into Ellen’s bed. Laughed some more. Returned missed calls from parents. Called the boys. Decided to head back over there. Hailed a cab. Drank some beers. Showed them the pictures. Relived the night. Looked at the champagne all over the walls. Animals. Talked about ordering sushi. Ordered sushi. Ate sushi in record time. Played some games. Lost. Laughed some more. Figured it was time to go home. Thought how lucky I am for my friends. Realized it was going to be a great year.
