A Single Man directed by Tom Ford

With Tom Ford being the director it is no surprise that A Single Man's trailer is as visually stimulating as it is. A Single Man will be hitting select theaters in New York and Los Angeles on December 11.

Desiderata by Max Ehrmann

This poem is hanging above the desk at my Gradmama's house. I think that it's worth sharing.

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even to the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
they are vexatious to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs,
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love,
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace in your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

Thanksgiving Leftovers

One of my favorite parts of Thanksgiving are the next day leftovers! This Thanksgiving, inspired by last years Balducci's sandwich, I convinced everyone that we needed to get a little creative with our Thanksgiving - leftover- Sandwiches with the addition of fried stuffing patties. We had a ton of stuffing in the fridge, so I molded the left overs into patties; Each was about the size of a small hamburger (e.g. crab cake). A fried up stuffing patty went on my sandwich along with some cranberry mayo, gravy, and turkey. Once all compiled, I slathered both sides with some butter and fried that bad boy up! Butter. Butter. Butter. Fry! Fry! Fry!

I molded the cold stuffing into patties and placed them on wax paper.

Then I heat up a non-stick pan, added a little butter, and fried the stuffing patties for about 4 minutes on each side.

We busted out the rest of the leftovers. Clockwise starting at the bread... carrot souffle, stuffing muffins, turkey, cranberry mayo, regular mayo, cranberry sauce, salad, and the star of the show... the stuffing patties!

A little Canadian Labatt's Blue.

And Thanksgiving leftover dinner was complete!

Needless to say I was a proud member of the clean plate club.... again.

This Black Friday I'm missing all the sales at my usual stomping grounds since I am still up in Kennebunkport. I'm not disappointed about this in the least; Tomorrow will be spent sipping on some Obama blend (more on that to come), trying to recreate Balducci's day after Thanksgiving sandwich, and possibly a holiday stroll through town for a little pre-Christmas-prelude... sounds about perfect to me! The only Black Friday sale I'm really bummed about missing is the one at Plaza Too! Today through Sunday you can take an additional 30% off all sale items! I wanted to stop in there and pick up a this really cute Tory Burch Tote and possibly these Elizabeth and James snake skin booties. You think they'd take an order over the phone?

NOTE : the Elizabeth and James booties are only available online!

Happy Thanksgiving!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING from Kennebunkport, Maine!!!

My mouth is already watering, but not for today's turkey... for tomorrows left over turkey sandwiches.... FACT.

ps... this Thanksgiving I'm thankful for YOU!

Happy (Friday) Wednesday!

The weekend is HERE people! Apologies to all those who have to go into work on Friday and now hate me. Instead of having my iTunes on shuffle as I continue my packing efforts, I've had Hit the Wall by Elizabeth and the Catapult on repeat. Am I the last to know of this Brooklyn based band? Their sound is kinda like if The Bird and the Bee and KT Tunstall were to form a band. Weird, but it works. Elizabeth and the Catapult's debut CD, Taller Children, just released this year. My suggestions? Hit the Wall, Momma's Boy, and Race You.

Check out this video below of them performing Hit the Wall

It's 12:29 am... I'm pseudo packing for my long Thanksgiving weekend getaway to Kennebunkport, ME. I currently have every sweater in my possession laid out on my (unmade) bed. I may or may not be about to start a load of laundry. Know the feeling? Even though I have a never ending to do list, and my eyes are currently closing, all I can think about is the fact that my FEET ARE FREEZING! I wish I would have picked up a pair of these at Old Navy today.

Stolen boys pair of Euros socks are going to have to do the trick....

I apologize for the last two PAYDAY picks being blouses. I know it's fall- everyone is shopping for sweaters, but for some reason I've been gravitating towards all things thin and or completely see-threw. Ok, first up, Sprinkled Chiffon Top. I'm loving everything about this, especially the color. This blouse has the perfect about of sequin detailing. I'm obsessed.

Next is a piece that is a little harder to wear. I know that the immediate thought is, "this won't work on my body type", but there are a ton of different ways to outfit this. I personal would love to wear this over a thin silk tank, but it could also be worn over a dress as long as the sleeve length is shorter than the lace caplets. Check out the way they have it outfitted in the catalogue below.

Crush It by Gary Vaynerchuk

I just finished watching this video mash-up of bloggers reviewing Gary Vaynerchuk's new book, Crush It. I haven't read the book yet, but I've been convinced. Especially comments made at the 31 second mark, 1 minute 22 seconds, then again at 3 minutes 14 seconds.

The Carrie Diaries

Gossip Girl x Sex and the City = The Carrie Diaries

Candance Bushnell has announced that her latest book, The Carrie Diaries, will be published on April 27, 2010. The Carrie Diaries is going to be a prequel to Sex and The City, following Carrie's days in high school, her first love, and her relationship with her mother... SHOWERING IN THIS ALREADY. I will have no shame being a 24 year old, actually scrap that...I'll be 25, openly reading this book. Hell, I might even go as far as to get an advanced copy!

goodLife {eats} : I Loved, I Lost, I Made Spaghetti

On of my favorite food blogs is goodLife {eats}. I was on there today when I saw this review she wrote for I Loved, I Lost, I Made Spaghetti. I haven't read the book myself, so don't take my word for it, but take Katie Goodman's...I trust her.

Giulia is a perpetually single woman dreaming of the perfect man and a marriage proposal - both of which she can't seem to find. In her debut memoir, I Loved, I Lost, I Made Spaghetti, she details her broken relationships and the delicious food she just can't resist preparing. Sometimes for the men in her life. Sometimes because of them.

Expect lots of Italian dishes in this book as the title implies. Giulia is the daughter of two Italians: a Brooklyn born first-generation Italian-American mother and a father who immigrated from southern Italy to establish a medical practice in the United States. With recipe titles like First Date Butterflies (Farfalle with Tuna), A Salad that Failed to Make a Perfect New Year's Eve (Mache, Pomegranate, and Pecan Salad), and No Nookie Gnocchi you'll be entertained as much by the recipes as you are by the stories of Giulia's failed romances.

Dating only a few in college and marrying by the end of my 20th year, I don't have anywhere near the dating history Giulia describes in her book. Naturally, I found it interesting and amusing to read her dating woes and drama. And hilarious to see the lengths to which she'd go to get that next boyfriend. I Loved, I Lost, I Made Spaghetti is perfect for anyone who needs a fun, easy read as well as those who can't keep their mouth from salivating while reading recipe after recipe. I happen to fit into both categories.

I'm a big fan of Etsy. On top of finding all sorts of unique fashion creations, I also love supporting up and coming designers. A k&t reader passed ArtLab along to me and I am more than grateful, because I seem to want one of everything. Prices are pretty competitive as well coming in around the $60 price point for the majority of the tops and scarves.

The New Male Midlife Crisis

Within the past year all the girls I know (who just months ago were happy being single) have all at some point said, "I want a boyfriend". The majority of my girl friends are living in big cities; They are focused on their careers, their friends, and themselves... but they've all voiced that something is missing from their visibly perfect lives. Girls at 20-something are wired very differently than boys; We aren't looking for the 100% settle down, but we are looking for the 25% settle... something that includes sleep overs, apple picking, weekends away, and Friday night dinners. In contrast, when you ask any of my guys friends what is missing from their lives, girl friend is no where on the list. WHY IS THAT?

Don't worry girls, it's not us... it's them!

Check out an except from "The New Male Midlife Crisis" by Lauren Iannotti about why this generation man is unable to commit.

"Outside the office, these women use their type A careerist energy to become multitasking machines—they run the board of their favorite charities, challenge their men on the ski slopes, have a healthy post-Cosmo attitude toward threesomes, decorate to Martha Stewart's standards, make steak chili on game day, and, while dishing it out, present a solid case for why the Steelers should go for it at fourth and one. The men who love them may be struggling like their dads did in their 40s, but for altogether different reasons: The old midlife crisis was triggered by the pressure and routine of providing for a family that relied on a guy for survival; the new one—which comes before kids, often before marriage—stems from trying to keep up with a woman who may not need him at all."

Art of the Trench : Part 2

The Burberry Trench I want new $1495

After a few seconds on the Burberry website I realized that I was going to have to add this coveted trench to the list of unobtainable goods in 2009. Burberry trenches start at $550 and go all the way up to $1995. Of course the one that I want comes in right around the $1495 mark, making it completely impossible even if I were to split the purchase on all 3 of my credit cards.
So here are my choices:

I could a) wait till I can purchase the exact trench I want new or b) I could scourer vintage stores and eBay for something used.

Since I'm about as impatient as they come, I've gone with option B. Luckily Burberry is a brand that has been around FOREVER so it should be easy to find what I'm looking for! I've already checked out eBay and there are 309 Burberry Trenches available - score - all prices much more affordable.

See for yourself! Happy Hunting!!!

Art of the Trench

I don't actually own a Burberry Trench coat, but that isn't stopping me from adding to my list of favorite social networking sites. Burberry's new site, Art of the Trench, will feature images of real people in Burberry trench coats. Burberry has teamed up with famed photographer Scott Schuman from the popular blog The Sartorialist for the majority of the images, but don't let that stop you from submitting your very own - they're accepting. This may be a new approach to branding, but I actually think it will work. After a couple of minutes on the site I found myself thinking I really need a Burberry trench... they seem to go with everything!

I am among the many girls, 20,000+ this week to be exact, who have signed up for and are patiently waiting for their acceptance. This high-end dress rental site will allow girls to Love the dress, Wear the dress, and Return the dresses all for $50-$200. I'm hoping that this site will end my obsession of shopping on Net-a-Porter for dresses I will never be able to afford and actually allow me to wear this, or this, or maybe even this!

Note: If you know someone who is already a member of they can invite you and you get automatic acceptance... at which point feel free to invite me : - THANKS!

Taylor's LEAVING Rachel Zoe Inc.

Taylor Jacobson confirmed today that she will be leaving Rachel Zoe Inc. and will be "shutting it down" on her own from now on.

Here is what Taylor said in a statement to :

“After four amazing years at Rachel Zoe Corporation, I’m saddened and exhilarated at the same time to announce my departure. After much thought and consideration, I have decided to take the challenging leap to go off and style on my own.”

It was back to back love at first sight with these two blouses. The colors are so much bolder in person than in these pictures. The Fire Leaves blouse, on the left, is really much more of a hot pink and grey than the red shown in the picture.

Sky-And-Snow Blouse by Edme & Esyllte $98

I'm currently 35,000 feet in the air, aboard a Delta flight to Florida.

Reasons why I almost always fly Delta:
1. Cheap Flights
2. Cookies so good I actually dream about them before flights. (True story, ask Kiira.)

My Halloween was very uneventful... but I'm totally cool with that. I was fine with my Halloween ending with the making of my Social Media Butterfly wings that have found a home hanging in my room (total eye sore btw). I did, however, want to share this adorable picture taken on the NYC subway. That little boy is adorable. I just want to snuggle him... in a very not creepy way.
